“Ouch!”  When you are hurting nothing else seems to matter much. The joy of life is decreased and you want nothing more than to get feeling better and back to your life.  If you are experiencing headaches, joint stiffness, back or neck pain, numbness, or restricted mobility, chances are you are suffering from what chiropractors call a “subluxation”.  A subluxation is a misalignment of the bones, joints and muscles that causes interference to the nerve system and because the nerve system runs the rest of the body, those subluxations may be impacting virtually every system of your body, causing a “back” problem to become a “health” problem.

So how do we get subluxations? Researchers have discovered that our first subluxations often occur during the normal birthing process and often go un-diagnosed for years and even decades. Our doctors have found that more than 80% of the infants that he’s examined shortly after birth were suffering from subluxation to the upper neck, resulting in all types of health problems such as nose, throat, and ear infections.

As we begin to participate in regular childhood activities like skating or riding a bike or playing sports, significant subluxations may occur. If neglected, the injuries during this period of rapid growth may lead to more serious problems later in life. Subtle trauma throughout childhood will affect the future development of the spine leading to impaired nervous system function.

It is no wonder that by the time we are adults, most of us have deeply established patterns of structural imbalance and stress eating away at our mobility and overall health.  In addition to physical trauma like whiplash from an auto accident, emotional or mental overload can trigger our body to hold patterns of tension in the muscles and skeletal system. Many adults falsely believe that tension, pain and stiffness is “normal” and just part of life. Not so.  Chiropractic adjustments and various complimentary treatments can greatly reduce the negative impact of the wear and tear damage that has accumulated throughout your life.

Chiropractic care is utilized in our office for much more than elimination of pain.  While that is often what brings a person to our office seeking care, our experience shows that when a person is suffering from vertebral subluxation, those subluxations may be impacting virtually every element of the person’s body.  The addition of chiropractic care to a person’s overall wellness care is often the key to their healing.

At I Am Wellness we specialize in family wellness care for all ages with methods that are gentle and effective. Our doctors have spent hundreds of hours learning from some of the best technique developers and thought leaders in the chiropractic and natural healing world.   Because of the power of our integrated approach, we are able to accomplish in one 10-15-minute office visit what may take multiple practitioners hours to do.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q – If subluxations can exist without pain, how would I know if my family or I have them?

A – The only way to be sure is to have a chiropractic examination. We perform a comprehensive structural assessment including postural testing, range of motion, orthopedic and neurological tests, spinal palpation, muscle strength testing and high-tech computerized assessments that measure spinal muscle balance and nerve system stress.  X-rays and other advanced diagnostic imaging may also be ordered to understand the nature and extent of your problem.

Q – Are chiropractic adjustments safe? Do they hurt?

A – Yes, adjustments are extremely safe. In fact, receiving treatment by a chiropractor is one of the safest health care procedures that you could ever have – far safer than even taking an aspirin.  What’s more, there are many ways to perform an adjustment and we can tailor your adjustment to make sure that it is comfortable and enjoyable to you. Kids in particular LOVE to get adjusted and often quarrel with their siblings as to who gets to go first.

Q – I went to a Chiropractor once and it didn’t seem to help. How will this be different?

A – Many healthy behaviors like exercise, diet and brushing your teeth don’t yield dramatic benefits over night.  The healing process takes time. Often people have been dealing with “silent” subluxations for years or even decades. It often takes a series of visits to unwind the patterns of dysfunction in the body.  For those who stick with chiropractic care, the results are phenomenal. We have a tremendous success rate of helping our patients feel better and return to full activity.

Q – Will my health insurance cover all of the costs?

A – Dr. Duggar is not a preferred provider with any general health insurance companies but many of our patients have out of network benefits that may help with the costs of chiropractic care.  We strongly advise each patient to contact his or her own insurance company to ask about coverage in our office. Rest assured that even if your insurance doesn’t cover your needs, we have flexible payment options.
