Frequently Asked Questions – Chiropractic Care

Q. What is Chiropractic?

A. Chiropractic is the largest “drug-free” healing approach in America.  Discovered in 1895, Chiropractic is based on 4 primary principles. First, that the body is a self-healing, self-regulating organism. Second, that the nerve system is the primary controlling system of the body. Third, that due to the nature of the anatomy of the spine, subtle imbalances in the alignment and function of the spine, called “subluxations”, impact nerve communication, thereby affecting overall health. And forth, that the restoration of motion and alignment of the spine, called an “adjustment” can improve the ability of the nerve system to control and coordinate the body’s functions.

Q. What sets our doctors apart from other chiropractors?

A. Our doctors have taken the best of several techniques and created a truly unique and powerful approach that is both safe and incredibly effective. We call it NeuroStructural Integration.  Subtle and gentle enough for infants and young children and robust enough for adults, this comfortable adjusting technique is often able to accomplish in a few short minutes what it would take multiple practitioners and several different appointments to accomplish.

Q. How long does it take to get results?

A. The healing process is a very individualized thing and depends on several factors such as the patient’s age, the severity of the condition and the length of time it has been dysfunctional.  That being said, it is very rare for a patient not to experience some positive changes in their condition within their first 4-6 adjustments.  Dr. Duggar will discuss your prognosis for healing and your care recommendations during your Report of Findings visit.

Q. How long has Dr. Duggar been in practice?

A. Dr. Duggar is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Life University, College of Chiropractic in 1998 and has maintained a full-time practice in Bountiful Utah since his graduation.  He has achieved certification as a Chiropractic Extremity Specialist, as well as a Motor Vehicle Occupant Injury Specialist.  He has helped thousands of patients rebalance and restore their health through safe, effective chiropractic care.

Q. Can I email Dr. Duggar with questions about my care?

A. All questions should be sent to our clinical assistant at .  She will consult with Dr. Duggar and reply to your email within 24-48 hours.  Concerns of a more pressing nature should be discussed with our team via the phone. Please call 801-677-7878 and we will help you get the answers you are looking for.

Consultation Process

Q. What is the best way to schedule an appointment with our doctors?

A. The easiest way to schedule an appointment with our doctors is to call his office, I Am Wellness, at (801) 677-7878.  Our team of assistants will facilitate scheduling your initial consultation and examination with our doctors.

Q. How quickly can I get an appointment?

A. We strive to be able to take initial consultations within 1-2 weeks of your phone call and we keep a waiting list for times when there are cancellations that might enable you to meet with our doctors sooner.

Q. What is included in the initial consultation and examination?

A. Your doctor will review your initial paperwork and questionnaires and carefully listen to your health concerns.  He will explain the relationship of your symptoms to the underlying systems that may be dysfunctional and he will determine what diagnostic testing may be the most appropriate to assess your condition.  Your doctor will perform a thorough structural examination of your posture, range of motion, joint and muscle health (including orthopedic and neurologic testing).  Your doctror may also utilize high-tech digital instrumentation to create a detailed overview of the effects of accumulated stress on your spine and nerve system (called an Insight scan).

Q. How long is the initial visit?

A. The initial consultation is scheduled for 30-45 minutes. Your second consultation, where your doctor will review your lab results and outline your care recommendations will be dependent on the number of tests you have but typically can be done in 45 minutes as well.  Follow up consultations can be scheduled for 15, 20 or 30 minutes.

Q. Will I be adjusted on the first visit?

A. If you are in acute pain, your doctor may elect to administer treatment aimed at reducing your symptoms but only if he is certain that it is safe and wise to do so. If it is prudent to obtain additional diagnostic information prior to adjusting you, we will schedule that to be completed as soon as possible.  The majority of our patients are not treated on the first day.

Q. Do I have to have x-rays done?

A. Occasionally a person will have recently been examined by another practitioner and our doctors can use those test results as a basis for your chiropractic care plan.  If that has not happened or the diagnostic tests are not adequate for a proper understanding of your health condition, our doctors will strongly recommend appropriate diagnostic imaging.  We prefer to eliminate all “guess work” in your case.

Q. How quickly are x-ray results available?

A. Our office has established a referral relationship with local facilities that take all of our patient’s x-rays. These are high-speed, digital imaging centers that will email our office your results immediately following your procedure.

Q. Can our doctors help children’s health issues?

A. Absolutely!  Children often suffer from the exact same physical, chemical and emotional stressors that adults do and that creates the same patterns of dysfunction in their spine and nerve systems.  Chiropractic adjustment techniques can be modified to the needs of young children and they often respond dramatically to the benefits of chiropractic care.  Some of the leading reasons parents seek chiropractic care for their children include; asthma, autism, bedwetting, ear infections, behavior problems, trouble sleeping, joint pain, “growing” pains and headaches.

Q. Can Chiropractic help pregnant women?

A. Yes. The science has been quite clear that women who receive chiropractic adjustments throughout their pregnancies have less difficult deliveries, shorter labor times and experience less pain and discomfort throughout pregnancy.  Our doctors are also trained in special techniques that have been developed to help babies who are in breech position in-utero to turn to the normal vertex position prior to delivery.

Q. What are the fees for consultations?

A. New Patient initial visit: 30-45 minutes for $100

Report of Findings visit: 30 minutes for $100

Follow up visits range between $40 to $75 dollars depending on the level of services performed.

Q. What is the cost for x-rays?

A. X-ray prices will vary between $80-$270 depending on what regions need to be studied.

Q. How much do chiropractic care programs typically cost?

A. Care plans are designed to meet each patient’s specific need and budget. A typical care plan might start at $400 and go up from there depending on complexity and duration of care included.

Q. Does the office bill my insurance for me?

A. Our office does not bill insurance companies.  We work 100% for our patients, not their insurance companies. We will provide documentation and receipts for you to submit to your insurance company but it is up to you to determine whether these services are eligible for insurance reimbursement.

Q. Are there any discounts for multiple family members or “family plans”?

A. Yes. Family plans are offered for all members of a family that are on a “wellness” schedule of care, meaning that they have completed phase 1 or “acute/intensive” treatment and are now coming in regularly for prevention and maintenance. Family plans range in price based on the number of family members in the plan and are billed at an affordable monthly rate via Credit card or Auto draft from a checking account.

Q. What are your billing and payment options?

A. Our office offers several payment options including payment at the time of service, monthly payment plans or 1-time pre-payment.  These options will be explained to you during your Report of Findings.  Credit card is the preferred method of payment but we will accept cash or personal check as long as it is received at the time of service or prior to services being rendered.

Q. What is your cancellation policy?

A. We request that you provide at least 24 hour notice of your intention to cancel or reschedule an appointment. If you provide less notice than that or simply fail to keep your appointment, you may be charged for that appointment.  We will set up an email and/or text reminder system to remind you of your appointments but are not responsible for any technological errors between our system and your email or phone company.

Supportive Care

Q. Does your office make custom orthotics?

A. Our doctors have advanced certification in treating extremity complaints with a particular emphasis on gait and foot function.  Our custom fitted orthotics are very effective at improving structural balance and decreasing pain and soreness throughout the feet, ankles, knees and lower back.  Our orthotics are prices at a fraction of other, less effective orthotics available in the marketplace.

Q. What other therapies do you recommend or use?

A. There are several therapies that have proven to be great adjuncts to chiropractic care.  We provide our patients with access to many forms of massage therapy, occupational therapy, rehabilitative movement, low level laser therapy, homeopathic injections, kinesiotaping and electrical stimulation therapy.
